All students entering the 7th grade are required to have one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis booster) and one dose of MCV4 (meningococcal conjugate vaccine). Although your student’s certificate may not have an expiration date or may be marked complete for school, the law requires that a current certificate be submitted verifying that the student has received both vaccines before they enter 7th grade. 
 
According to Gwinnett County Public School Procedure P.JBA, a child may be excluded from school attendance until an updated immunization certificate is provided. Certificates will also be considered in compliance if they provide evidence of medical exemption and have not expired. Parents who previously filed a Religious Affidavit of Exemption with the school do not need to file another affidavit. 
 
Vaccinations and immunization certificates are available through your private physician, other healthcare providers, or at the local health department offices listed below. As a reminder, if you are financially eligible, your child can receive vaccines at no cost through the Vaccines for Children program, though an administration fee will apply for each vaccine. If you are unable to pay the administration fee, please ask to speak with the center manager at your local health center for financial assistance. Be sure to bring this letter with you when you visit the health center.
